INTRODUCTION
In this webinar, participants will gain an insight and understanding of the various types of audits conducted by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD).
Our distinguished moderator and panelists will discuss the RMCD audit framework, case studies and share their vast knowledge, experiences and the practical issues faced by taxpayers. Participants will also be equipped with an adequate knowledge and understanding of the potential areas of audit by Customs, the pitfalls to avoid and consequences of non-compliance. The programme will also include legal strategies and ways to handle Customs Audits, disputes before the Tribunal and Judicial Review before the High Court and also highlight the common offences under the relevant legislations and appeal procedures.

Moderator
Jalbir Singh Riar is a Partner at Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn Bhd and has 14 years of experience in providing advisory and compliance services on indirect tax matters. Jalbir has advised local and multi-national clients in industries including oil and gas, education, healthcare, automotive, manufacturing and trading, where he has assisted clients with implementation and technical matters related to GST and sales and services tax (SST) as well as facilitating discussions with relevant tax authorities. Jalbir has good rapport with various authorities including the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, the Royal Malaysian Customs, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority and the Ministry of Finance.
Speakers
Huang Shi Yang is a Tax Director and heads the Trade & Customs team in KPMG in Malaysia’s Indirect Tax practice. He is currently the customs work-stream leader of the Indirect Taxation Technical Committee of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia. He was previously a key Member of American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce Task Force on Strategic Trade Act 2010 implementation, and a Member of the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry Trade Facilitation sub-committee.
S Saravana Kumar is a Tax Lawyer & Head of Tax, SST & Customs at the law firm Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership. He holds an LL.M Taxation from the London School of Economics. Saravana has been recognised as one of the leading lawyers by Legal 500, Chambers Asia & Benchmark Litigation 7 and has been named one of the 40 leading lawyers under 40 in Asia by Asian Legal Business. He was recently named as one of the top 100 lawyers in Malaysia in 2021 by Asia Business Law Journal.
